Colour is never the only cue
Hostile files carry a red triangle. Friendly files carry a blue ring. Units whose side depends on where you stand carry a sage diamond and the words CHECK IFF.
Some aircraft fly for either side, and the game works out which from where you are playing. When in doubt, hold fire and look again.
Reported, then confirmed
In the game a file starts as a reported silhouette. Bring the unit down once and the file opens: full specifications, the sound, the tell, and a 3D model to turn in your hands. Some files are premium; the game marks them clearly.
The open files here carry the game's own 3D models. The silhouettes stay closed until you earn them in the game.
